COURSE OVERVIEW
- The Wreck Diver course can be just for fun, it’s a great introduction to the thrills of wreck diving.
- It may be credited towards a program of specialty courses to achieve the Master Scuba Diver rating.
- There are 4 dives in the Wreck Diver Course
1. Wreck Training Dive One – By the end of this dive students will be able to:
- Swim on the outside of a wreck, maintaining proper buoyancy control, and identifying/avoiding potential hazards. You will navigate around the wreck so that the ascent point can be located without surfacing while maintaining neutral buoyancy and body position so that contact with the bottom is avoided.
2. Wreck Training Dive Two – By the end of this dive students will be able to:
- Swim along the outside of a wreck, in a buddy team, identifying and avoiding potential hazards while mapping the wreck (or a portion of the wreck), determining approximate size and marking points of interest. You will also survey the wreck for a penetration dive and evaluate possible entrances while navigating on the wreck, then return to the ascent point without surfacing.
3. Wreck Training Dive Three – By the end of this dive students will be able to:
- Demonstrate the deployment and retrieval of a penetration line, using the outside of the wreck, while working in a buddy team. Then swim along the deployed penetration line so as to maintain contact with the line without kicking up silt and holding on to a dive light. You will also navigate on the wreck so that the ascent point can be located without surfacing.
4. Wreck Training Dive Four A – By the end of this dive students will be able to:
- Plan and perform an actual wreck penetration under direct supervision, determining air supply and penetration limits. Swim without causing excessive silt disturbance while maintaining contact with the line, using a dive light and navigate on the wreck so that the ascent point can be located without surfacing. Wreck Training Dive Four B – By the end of this dive students will be able to:
- Organize and conduct a wreck dive with a buddy, and only minimal instructor assistance. You will swim on the outside of the wreck, identifying and avoiding possible hazards while navigating on the wreck so the ascent point can be located without surfacing.
