This course polishes a diver’s buoyancy control beyond Open Water Diver level and enhances the diver’s buoyancy control abilities through knowledge development and practical skill training exercises.
COURSE COST - $180.00 per person
- $280.00 per person – Private
REQUIRED AGE/CERTIFICATION LEVEL - Minimum age 10 years old with PADI Open Water certification/Junior Open Water certification or proof of equivalent certification by another training agency.
COURSE OVERVIEW - Knowledge reviews in the PADI Adventures in Diving Manual which must be completed prior to diving, and will be reviewed by the Instructor
- This course can be credited as one of the specialty courses needed to achieve the Master Scuba Diver rating. It is particularly useful for anyone interested in underwater photography.
There are two dives in the Peak Performance Buoyancy Course:
1. Dive One - By the end of Dive One students will: - Rig a weight system using an estimated amount of weight from PADI’s “Basic Weighting Guidelines,” positioning the weight for comfort and the desired body position (trim) in the water.
- Use visualization techniques prior to the dive to help you relax, establish a comfortable breathing pattern and move efficiently through the water
- Conduct a buoyancy check by adjusting the amount of weight worm to achieve neutral buoyancy at the surface of the water with the BCD deflated.
- Make a controlled, slow descent to the bottom adjusting for neutral buoyancy as required using the BCD at a predetermined depth.
- Using buoyancy control, you will hover motionless (without kicking or hand movement) under water for at least one minute.
- The diver must swim horizontally and remain neutrally buoyant without touching the bottom or breaking the surface of the water. By making minor depth adjustments using breath control, the diver must also demonstrate efficient fin kicks, using long slow strokes and gliding.
- Once comfortable at depth, you will navigate an obstacle course without touching obstacle items, the bottom or breaking the surface.
- Adjust weights (trim) as required and practice hovering in different positions – vertical, horizontal feet slightly elevated and head slightly elevated.
2. Dive Two - By the end of Dive Two students will: - Rig a weight system using an estimated amount of weight (PADI’s Basic Weighting Guidelines), positioning and distributing the weight for comfort and desired body position (trim)in the water.
- Use visualization techniques to help you relax, establish a comfortable breathing pattern and move gracefully through the water.
- Conduct a pre and post dive buoyancy check by adjusting the amount of weight worn to achieve neutral buoyancy at the surface of the water with the BCD deflated.
- Make a controlled, slow descent to the bottom adjusting for neutral buoyancy using the BCD as required.
- Demonstrate efficient fin kicks, using long slow strokes and gliding after each kick during the dive.
STUDENTS TO SUPPLY: - Mask, fins, snorkel, dive knife,
