The purpose of the PADI Night Diver specialty course is to familiarize divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems, hazards and enjoyment of diving at night. The Night Diver specialty course is intended to serve as a fun, safe, and supervised introduction to night diving.
The focus of the course is to develop your practical knowledge of night diving and enable you to appreciate the equipment and procedure required to dive safely at night.

REQUIRED AGE /CERTIFICATION LEVEL - Minimum Age: 12 years old and PADI Open Water certification, or have a qualifying certification from another organization.
- There are knowledge reviews in the PADI Night Diver manual which must be completed and reviewed by the instructor during a classroom session when you will also watch the PADI Night Diver video.
COURSE OVERVIEW - Certification counts toward the PADI Master Scuba Diver Rating.
There are 3 dives in the night diver course: 1. Open Diver Training Dive One - By the end of this dive students will be able to: - Descend using a line or sloping bottom as a reference.
- Demonstrate the proper use of personal equipment at night e.g. dive light, submersible pressure gauge, compass, timing device and depth gauge.
- Communications with other divers will be with hand signals and dive lights while night diving.
- You will navigate to a predetermined location using a compass/ natural features and return to within 8 meters / 25 feet of the starting point, without surfacing for orientation.
- Demonstrate proper diving procedures by maintaining buddy contact throughout the night dive and perform an ascent using a line or sloping bottom as a reference.
2. Open Diver Training Dive Two - By the end of this dive students will be able to: - Descend using a line or a sloping bottom as reference.
- Demonstrate the proper use of a dive light and personal equipment e.g. submersible pressure gauge, compass, timing device and depth gauge at night.
- Communication with other divers will be with hand signals and dive lights while night diving.
- Use you compass to return the shore or the boat with at least 35 bar/ 500 p.s.i remaining in your scuba tank.
- During the night dive you will identify some of the nocturnal aquatic life discussed during the academic portion of the course and demonstrate proper diving procedures by maintaining buddy contact throughout the night dive.
3. Open Diver Training Dive Two - By the end of this dive students will be able to: - Execute a free descent using the line or sloping bottom as a visual guide only.
- Demonstrate the proper use of a dive light and personal equipment e.g. submersible pressure gauge, compass, timing device and depth gauge at night.
- Communication with other divers will be with hand signals and dive lights while night diving.
- During the dive you will remain in a stationary position for three minutes, on the bottom, with no dive lights on.
- Demonstrate proper diving procedures by maintaining buddy contact throughout the night dive and perform an ascent using a line or sloping bottom as a reference.
STUDENTS TO PROVIDE - Mask, fins, snorkel, dive knife, surface marker/flag with a light and two underwater lights.
- BCD, regulator, secondary air source, pressure gauge, compass and tanks can be rented from Lauderdale Diver. .
