This course is designed to help the student develop the skills, knowledge and techniques for dry suit diving.

COURSE COST

  • $200.00 per person
  • $300.00 per person – Private

REQUIRED AGE/CERTIFICATION LEVEL

  • Minimum age is 10 years old with PADI Open Water certification or Junior Open Water certification, or proof of equivalent certification by another training agency.

COURSE OVERVIEW

  • Knowledge reviews in the PADI Dry suit Diver manual which must be completed and reviewed by the Instructor during a classroom session, when you will also watch the PADI Dry Suit Diver video.
  • This course is particularly useful for those planning on diving in a cold environment.  It can also be credited as one of the specialty courses needed to achieve the Master Scuba Diver rating.
  • Site entrance fees are included

There are a total of 3 dives in the Dry Suit Diver Course:

1. Confined Water Dry Suit Orientation Course - Students will participate in the following:
  •  Complete a confined water dry suit orientation dive prior to making the first Dry Suit open water dive of this course.
  • The confined water dive provides an opportunity to eliminate potential equipment problems and allows student divers to try out their dry suits and develop basic dry suit diving skills.
  • Learn to don and remove dry suit, demonstrate how to conduct a buoyancy check at the surface while wearing a dry suit with undergarments and full scuba equipment.
  • Demonstrate neutral buoyancy by performing a one-minute fin pivot and a one-minute hover near the bottom.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the low-pressure hose from the dry suit inflator valve while under water wearing gloves.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain neutral buoyancy, near the bottom, while both the inflator and deflator mechanisms of the dry suit are depressed.
  • Demonstrate one technique for recovering from excess gas in the feet.
  • Perform a neutrally buoyant ascent from the bottom, at a rate no faster than 18 meters/60 feet per minute and remove and replace both the scuba unit and weight system while on the surface of the water.

 2. Dry Suit Open Water Dive One - Students will participate in the following:

  • Don and remove a dry suit with the aid of another diver.
  • Adjust the amount of weight necessary to be neutrally buoyant at the surface, while maintaining a full breath when both the dry suit and the BCD are completely vented of air.
  • Perform a controlled descent, avoiding sui squeeze by adding air to the suit.
  • Demonstrate neutral buoyancy by pivoting on the fin tips, or when appropriate, another point of contact for one minute.
  • Maintain neutral buoyancy near the bottom by hovering (without kicking or sculling) for one minute.
  • Maintain neutral buoyancy during the dive and avoid accidentally kicking up silt or touching the bottom.
  • Perform a neutrally buoyant ascent from the bottom, at a rate no faster than 18 meters/60 feet per minute.
  • Perform a safety stop at 5 meters/15 feet for at least three minutes
  • Remove and replace, on the surface, both the scuba unit and weight system.

3. Dry Suit Open Water Dive Two - Students will participate in the following:

  • Don and remove a dry suit with the aid of another diver if appropriate for that model dry suit.
  • Performed a controlled descent, while adding a little air to avoid suit squeeze.
  • Disconnect and reconnect the low-pressure hose from the dry suit inflator valve while underwater wearing gloves.
  • Maintain neutral buoyancy during the dive and avoid accidentally kicking up bottom silt and/or touching the reef/bottom
  • Perform a neutrally buoyant ascent from the bottom, at a rate no faster than 18 meters/60 feet per minute.
  • Perform a safety stop at 5 meters/15 feet for three minutes.
