The purpose of this specialty course is to familiarize divers with the skills, knowledge, planning, organization, techniques, procedures, problems, hazards and enjoyment of diving from a boat.  The Boat Diver Specialty course is intended to serve as a safe, supervised introduction to safe boat diving.

REQUIRED AGE/CERTIFICATION LEVEL

• Minimum age 10 years old with PADI Open Water certification/Junior Open Water certification or proof of equivalent certification by another training agency.

COURSE OVERVIEW

• There are knowledge reviews in the PADI Adventures in Diving manual which must be completed prior to diving, and will be reviewed by the Instructor.
• This course may be credited towards a specialty course to achieve the Master Scuba Diver rating.

There are two dives from a boat in the Boat Diver Course:

1.    Open Water Training Dive One - By the end of this session, students will:

• Identify areas of the boat being used for dive including bow, stern, starboard, port, entry area, exit area and the area to stow diving equipment.
• Locate important emergency/safety equipment aboard the boat such as first aid kit, oxygen, dive bag, radio and fire extinguisher
• Perform a proper entry specific to the type of boat being used for the dive.
• Perform a safety stop at 5 meters/15 feet for at least three minutes
• Perform a proper exit specific to the type of boat being used for the dive.

2.    Open Water Training Dive Two - By the end of this session, students will:

• Demonstrate the ability to construct a dive plan that takes into account the type of boat being used and the diving environment
• Demonstrate the ability to apply the knowledge learned from the course to the type of dive boat being used.

STUDENTS TO SUPPLY:

• Mask, fins, snorkel, dive knife,
• BCD, regulator, secondary air source, pressure gauge, compass and tanks can be rented from Lauderdale Diver.
