Basic Spearfishing

Basic Spear Fishing

Instructs competent and comfortable freedivers in the art of spearfishing with emphasis on safety, selectivity, and effective hunting techniques. Instruction will cover psychological and physiological factors that contribute to successful spearfishing performance. Sheri Daye and Daryl Wong are the instructors for this class.

Is this course for you?

You're comfortable with basic freediving skills and achieve depths anywhere from 4 - 12m / 10 - 40 feet with relative comfort and have a breath-hold time of 1 minute or longer. You have either none or limited spearfishing experience and would like to get started or improve on current skills. If so, then this is the course for you!

Basic Spearfishing covers the following:

Hunting Ethics
Spearfishing Safety Do's and Don'ts Spearfishing-specific equipment
Speargun Selection
Shot Placement and Target Practice & Applicable Laws and Proper Flag Display Boating Etiquette Various Types of Hunting Fish Identification and Behavior
Techniques for Attracting Fish
Teamwork
Proper Fish Handling/Filleting/Storage
Travel Tips

Format / Duration

Basic Spearfishing is held over 3-days, 8-hrs / days
Includes: 4 classroom sessions, 2 pool sessions, 2 open water sessions

Prerequisites

PFI certification as a Basic Freediver or Higher
Good health and fitness
Static of at least 1:00min and depth of about 20ft
14 years of age with guardian permission

Cost

$595.00 US and includes the following:
